Roots and Routes

Roots and Routes is an artist-in-residence programme and a collaborative initiative that brings people together through food. It has been developed for the European platform Magic Carpets, co-funded by the Creative Europe Large Scale Programme, which brings together twenty European partners.

Involving children from the Galline Bianche library, located in the 15th municipality, the project explores the role of food in identity, a sense of belonging and relationships. Food, deeply linked to cultural, spiritual and mythological beliefs, symbolises life, abundance and humanity’s connection with nature. Through shared meals, storytelling and creative experimentation, participants celebrate culinary heritage and reflect on transformation and adaptation over time.

During Gaia Scaramella’s workshop, the children became little chefs and explored milk in all its facets: from its history and symbolism to cultural traditions. The experience was enriched by a creative installation, designed to stimulate the imagination and deepen the connection with this deeply meaningful ingredient.
